December empties #03: Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Review

Christmas and Boxing Day are the time of year when you can go all out (shopping wise) to spoil yourself and your loved ones, without feeling as guilty as you usually would due to the immense amount of sales around!

This year, I decided to not go to Boxing Day Sales (not that I've been to any to be honest haha!), instead I am staying at home today just relaxing and writing for you all, before going back to work tomorrow. So yea, technically, I'm spending my time wisely right?

Anyways, today's post is on another empties of this month! After last empties post (if you haven't read, click HERE), I've received a lot of requests to do a review on this Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser - like why I chose this over the E.L.F Tone Adjusting Primer. So I thought, why not, let's start this week's post with this!

Preface: I thought I only have a photo to upload here (like previous posts), but when I was digging in my camera files, I found some photos I took before I started using the product, thank goodness.

Here's a brief of what this product is *if you don't know/never heard of.. which is highly unlikely right?* or simply, a quick run-down:

What does it do? This product is a basic, fragrance-free silicone-based primer designed to minimise the appearance of pores. You apply this product, as the name suggests, after the last step of your skincare routine, for you, it might be moisturiser or sunscreen, before foundation. You can wear it alone or under makeup.

What does it look like? This primer is completely transparent and even though it looks thick when you squeeze it from the tube, it becomes very thin and easy to spread the moment you apply a little pressure.

Affects on my skin: My pores appear "blurred" as promised and also appear much smaller after one application of Baby Skin. In person, the overall effect is even more dramatic - my skin looks and feels incredibly smooth and quite similar to when I use Benefit The Porefessional Primer.

Due to the high silicone content in this primer, you'll have no application issues when it comes to your base (foundation, BB/CC cream etc). For me, this product makes my base glide on the skin quite easily, with no patchiness or streaks.

Let's get to know my skin! With my skin, I never had problem or major issue in fact, with such visible pores as I always do deep cleansing every month, but when life gets in the way, being all hectic, I then don't have the time to take care of my skin well, hence pores appear (mostly near the sides of my nose and a little on my nose) and this is when this product comes in handy when prepping my skin before makeup.

First impression and packaging: This primer comes in an light aqua blue plastic tube. The tube is rather small, so when I first saw this product, I was thinking that this will finish up really fast, but I was quickly proven wrong since you do not need that much product at all! A small amount goes a long way! This product comes in a simple gel-like formula which is completely clear. The formula is very lightweight so it can be worn under makeup without any issues.

PROS:
  • Easy to apply
  • does everything it claims
  • leaves the area smooth and soft
  • lightweight formula
  • does help to diminish the appearance of pores to a minor degree
  • works well under makeup, serving as a smooth canvas for foundation
  • inexpensive product but works just as well as high-end pore primers!
  • doesn't irritate skin
  • fragrance free
CONS:
  • it's fragrance-free but has a very silicone-y smell, however it disappears immediately upon application
Verdict: For me, this product most closely resembles Benefit The Porefessional Primer, eventhough they're quite different in appearance (The Porefessional is tinted, scented and also a bit thicker in texture) but they share the same performance. If you're already a fan of silicone-based primers and you're looking for an inexpensive alternative to Benefit The Porefessional, I think you might want to consider this one.

Would I recommend this? Oh definitely yes! I have repurchased this product quite a few times! It has worked worked wonders for me and this is a staple in my makeup routine.

In conclusion, I hope this review was helpful to you ladies and if you have skin type like me, then I highly suggest you try out this product. Also, if you are on the lookout for a good pore erasing primer, I would recommend trying this one out before you go on and buy the high-end ones because this might just do the trick for you.

Love,
Melon xoxo
