Sleek Makeup Highlighting Palette in Solstice Review

Oh heyyy again everyone! Second post of this week woohoo, we're rolling! If you haven't read the first post of this week, check it out HERE.

I’ve got swatches and review today of the Sleek Makeup - highlighting palette in "Solstice".  I have been so curious about this for the longest time but never got around to buying one. Then when I really wanted to get it, the Target that I always go to ran out of stock. So it was an on and off chance all the time when popping by and FINALLY I got this beau last week. So yea if you are interested in how I went, then keep reading :)

First impression of the budget highlighting palette that's on everyone's face:
As we can all see, this palette is in a shiny, rose gold tinged compact that features a handy-sized mirror and a scratchy brush (to be very honest)! Aside from the disappointing brush, the palette is in a good size - enough for popping into a handbag for touch-ups! If that is not enough, the plastic style of the compact ensures that the contents are well protected - perfect if like myself you are more than a little clumsy.

Sleek is considered a drugstore brand in the UK hence this is why this eye candy is completely stunning for a budget brand! This palette is 9 gram. This palette has one cream highlighter, one silky shimmer powder and two baked highlighters.

Product description:

As you can see this palette contains four, fairly cool toned highlighting products - three of which are powder based and one cream. From my experiences, I am not a fan of mixed formulation palettes of any kind; more often than not, fall out from the powders becomes embedded within the cream textures and it all becomes more than a little messy. Surprisingly, that has not been the case with this, or at least thus far; I think this is due to the firm textures of the powders but more on that later.

The cream highlight is the most vibrant cream highlight I have ever used, the shimmer powder is WOW and I would compare its vibrancy to Mac Soft & Gentle and then the two baked highlighters are the most pigmented highlighters ever! The colour payoff on the skin is intense. I would compare them to the feel and the pigmentation of Becca Highlighters but I have to say they may have just a touch more pigmentation. These powders are so damn soft they feel like a cream.

From 1-4 we have:

1: Ecliptic - This is the cream highlighter within the palette and what a cream it is. A light nude that has a little yellow in tone and despite being fairly pale, it is not overly stark making it suitable for most skin tones. You can of course use this in the typical highlighter sense, and/or as cream eyeshadow.

2: Hemisphere - a pale lilac highlighting powder that transforms into a bright white, almost silver toned soft yet metallic sheen when applied to the skin. This is probably the most special toned of highlighter I have come across and it is surprisingly very easy to wear - with a light hand, this has quickly become my go to daily shade.

3: Subsolar - a bright, light, almost pale gold powder highlighter that is fairly intense in colour and the perfect option for those who like an intense, almost foil-like, metallic sheen to the skin. I couldn't be a bigger fan.

4: Equinox - sometimes you need to save the best until last and this is very much the case. It is a pretty, subtle peach gold shade that again offers an almost foil like finish, all the while brightening the complexion as it goes.

Swatches:
I did my best not to build up the swatches too much, because these are not meant to be worn thick and layered on but as a sheer wash of brightness to the areas of your face that you want to catch some light.

With and without flash.

I want to add that all four highlighters are all amazingly formulated: well pigmented, shimmery yet no traces of chunky glitter, easy to apply and blend out. I rather like that the highlighters also double up as eyeshadows should you wish and in the case of the cream shade, a primer of sorts too.

How do I use it?
You can use each of these wherever you like, because the palette is really versatile and the effect you get from the different highlighters is similar, but there are subtle differences which led me to apply them as such:

- Hemisphere (2): the lilac baked highlighter which has the strongest highlighting effect because of its colour -  on the cheekbones and in the inner eyecorners
- Equinox (4): the peachy baked highlighter - on the brow bone
- Subsolar (3): the pastel yellow glittery highlighter that has the most "neutral" colour when applied to the skin - along the bridge of the nose
- Ecliptic (1): the cream highlighter - dabbed on the cupid's bow (top of lip)

Like I said: any of these could serve any of these functions but I like my cheekbone and inner eyecorner highlight to be the strongest, my cupid's bow highlighter to be a cream because that works best with lipsticks and that it adheres to the spot, and my nose bridge highlighter to be the most subtle.

Equinox is the most versatile out of all the highlighters if you ask me, so the reason I used it on the brow bone is mostly because all the others already had a "preferred" application area.

Overall:
I 100% recommend this palette. There are 4 individual shades. All very unique but all quite light. I am not sure how this particular palette would go on very dark skin, I would love to hear if you have tried it and you have darker skin. There are two other options but this is the only one that has the gold packaging and this is the only one with this type of combination of different highlights.

My advice is buy it, don’t walk, run, go and get it! I am so glad I got my hands on this.

Thankyou for reading! TELL ME TELL ME what would you like reviewed next?
