Kenzako Sustainable Makeup Remover Pads

Did you know that one reusable makeup remover pad replaces over
1000 disposable cotton rounds / 500 single use facial wipes?

Today I am sharing my thoughts on these makeup remover pads kindly gifted from Kenzako - recently I shared on my instagram (with a reel) mentioning that I’m relatively new in this low-impact journey, working slowly to change my lifestyle to reduce my carbon footprint on this planet.
I actually can’t believe how long it’s taken for me to get on board with reusable makeup remover pads, but I’m never going back!

A lil background about Kenzako Skincare - le brand is 100% vegan, organic and Australian-owned.
Their mission: "no unwanted extras, no toxins, just ingredients with purpose."
I'm sure we all agree that these days, we all want environmentally friendly beauty products -
Kenzako Skincare is leading the way!

Kenzako makeup remover pads are essentially a sustainable alternative to makeup wipes so are perfect for people who are environmentally conscious or those who like to remove their makeup as soon as they get home, but maybe save the full cleansing routine for later in the night.

Note: These products were sent to me for review purposes. I was not paid and affiliate links are not used in this post.

They are reusable and washable, so a single pack (of 2 makeup remover pads) is going to last a significant amount of time. Each pad lasts up to 500 washes.

All of these are available on their official website (which ship Australia-wide), I also have a lil discount code for you all (at the end), but before all that – let’s get into this review!

  • What is it?

The makeup remover pads come in packs of two, with each pad able to replace up to 500 single-use makeup wipes – and that’s a lot of landfill. In fact, they claim to actually remove makeup better than a standard wipe through the use of their high-quality microfibre fabric that activates easily with water.

  • What does it remove?
It removes all types of makeup (you name it, powder, foundation, concealers, lipstick, smear proof and waterproof makeup); draws out impurities from the skin (like oil, dirt etc); sunscreen, dead skin cells, face masks and much more. It can be removed with just a few gentle wipes and leaves skin feeling fresh without leaving any residue behind.
  • How to use it?

To use these remover pads, you just need to add water. I found it easier in warm water as it loosens oil-based makeup better than cold water; and then gently wipe off your makeup. Micro-fibres cling onto the debris so it doesn’t move about your face like with facial wipes.

For those who wear heavier eye makeup, I recommend re-hydrating the pad and holding it to your eyes for a few seconds before wiping; or as they recommend, for a deeper clean, use your favourite cleanser, apply onto skin and use the makeup remover pad and gently wipe away your makeup.

If you like to double cleanse (which is highly recommended especially if you wear SPF or a long-wear foundation, or you're exposed to pollution) the reusable pad would replace your first cleanse then carry out your second cleanse with a richer formula.

  • Is it for everyone?

Since these makeup remover pads only use water, therefore containing none of the soaps or chemicals from regular makeup wipes, this means that it is suitable for all skin types and sensitivity levels. These wipes can also be machine washed around 200 times too – just make sure not to use any fabric softener or it’ll impact the efficacy of the fibres.

  • How does it work? What's the sorcery?
The makeup remover pad is made of many threads on a smaller surface area and this is useful and handy because it assists with friction. The fibres are able to grip onto the makeup and lift it from the skin. The cloth is able to grab more makeup with less force and therefore causing less irritation.

As the fibres are smaller, they are able to get under finer particles of makeup and achieve more thorough cleansing. The cloth also has great absorption so that when you do wipe away at your makeup, it doesn’t just get smeared around. Instead, it attaches itself to the cloth due to the fibres that bind the dirt and holds it better than regular cloth.

*I also find that warm water also aids in the cleansing process.
  • How to look after your makeup remover pads?
Just clean with soap and warm water after every use to stop your mascara making itself at home on the pad. ;)  Once a week they can go into the washing machine (with similar colours) - free meshbag is included in the pack.

  • Other ways to use these reusable makeup remover pads in your skincare routine:
Reusable makeup pads are primarily intended for removing makeup, but did you know they can be used in other areas of your skin care routine? Here are four ways you can use it for.
  1. Cleansing your face - saturate the pad with water and glide over your face to cleanse.
  2. Applying toner - saturate the pad with toner and wipe over your face/
  3. Exfoliating - because reusable makeup remover pads need to be gently rubbed over your face, they can actually be used as a form of mechanical exfoliation. To do so, just use the pad to apply a face scrub, instead of your hands.
  4. Removing a face mask (my fav!) - instead of splashing your face with water, you can use this pad to remove a face mask, by wetting the pad with lukewarm water and wipe it over your face.
  • WOULD I RECOMMEND & WHERE TO GET IT FROM

I would absolutely be recommending these to anyone who regularly uses makeup wipes; the Kenzako makeup remover pads are a significant improvement in so many ways. Again, don’t replace your cleansing routine with this, but treat it as an initial cleansing step – both your skin and the environment will thank you for it.
